Surveillance of nosocomial infections in intensive care units
NOSIX is the acronym of Luxembourg Nosocomial Infection Surveillance System.
In Luxembourg, the program is using the NOSIX software available online and is coordinated by the National Service of Infectious Diseases and the CRP-Santé at the request of the Ministry of Health. The purpose is to establish statistics of nosocomial infections in intensive care units at the different hospitals in Luxembourg.
In practice, the information is collected in the different hospitals by public health nurses and encoded anonymously in the NOSIX central database.
A verification plan emanated from the observed variability between hospitals in reporting the incidence of nosocomial infections.
In order to explain potential causes of these variations, a verification plan has been requested in 2010 by the Ministry of Health to verify the accuracy of source data encoded in the system NOSIX and identify the proportion of not encrypted, incorrectly encoded or missing data.
