European Parliament, Science and Technology Option Assessment and the European Parliamentary Research Service Médecins Sans Frontières International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease World Health Organization TDR, Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases Structured Operational Research and Training IniTiative
The seminar will be streamed live on the 4th March 2014 from 2.30 p.m onwards
It is hosted by the Science and Technology Option Assessment (STOA), Directorate-General for Parliamentary Research Services (EPRS), European Parliament. Bridging the gap between science and practice.
The current model for most international health programs is based on the assumption that research ‘discovers solutions’ which will then be implemented in health programs.
The reality is different, as evidenced by a significant gap between what we know from research and what we do with this knowledge.
Operational research has a key role in bridging this implementation gap.
There is a need today to ensure that products and innovative tools can be effectively applied to various contexts.
Capacity for absorbing and applying this science downstream is lacking, and supporting parallel operational research could thus ensure that donor funds are being spent wisely.
The workshop will address ways of optimizing healthcare measures and discuss the‘what, why and how’ of health services research in low- and middle-income countries.
The full program and the registration page will soon be made available.
