ALVINA Study : Droste DW, Iliescu C, Vaillant M, Gantenbein M, De Bremaeker N, Lieunard C, Velez T, Meyer M, Guth T, Kuemmerle A, Chioti A: Advice on lifestyle changes (diet, red wine and physical activity) does not affect internal carotid and middle cerebral artery blood flow velocity in patients with carotid arteriosclerosis in a randomised controlled trial. - 1124 participants enrolled in 2014 (17 in pharma driven studies, 1107 in academic research studies)
- 16 new studies initiated (3 Compassionate Use Programs, 8 Pharma driven and 5 academic studies
- In 2 New therapeutic areas: Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson Disease
- Collaborations

o Support to 4 national academic research projects
o 9 New collaborations with clinicians (CHL/CHEM/ChdN)
o Example for a successful CIEC/CHL collaboration: Both institutions were involved in an international pivotal clinical study with on the use of the drug "crizotinib" as first-line treatment against a form of lung cancer called adenocarcinoma in patients carrying a particular genetic mutation. The study, published in the "New England Journal of Medicine" in December, showed that the drug did shrink tumors, prolonged the survival of patients and was significantly more effective than conventional chemotherapy.
